Field service dispatch board

A scheduling board that assigns jobs to technicians and keeps the day on track.

Concept · sample data

Overview

A dispatcher's day is a puzzle of skills, locations and time. This concept puts every technician and every job on one board, flags clashes before they happen and keeps customers informed, so reshuffling after a cancellation takes seconds rather than a round of phone calls.

The problem it explores

Dispatchers juggle phone calls, a calendar and a map to place jobs, and a single cancellation can unravel the whole day.

Design decisions

  1. The board is the source of truth

Jobs live in technician lanes on a time axis. Moving a card is the scheduling action, so there is no separate calendar to keep in sync.

  2. The system catches clashes

Overlaps, missing skills and long travel gaps are flagged as soon as a job is placed, while the dispatcher is still looking at it.

  3. Technicians get a simple day view

Each technician sees their own ordered list of jobs with addresses and notes, and updates status from the field.

What the concept includes

  • Technician lanes on a timeline with draggable job cards
  • Unassigned jobs queue with priority
  • Clash and skills warnings
  • Job status from scheduled to completed
  • Customer notifications on reschedule

Under the hood

A React front end with a Django API and PostgreSQL. Scheduling rules run on the server so every client sees the same result, and a background worker sends customer notifications when a job changes.

What happens next

  1. You send a brief

A few lines on the problem and the outcome you want.

  2. We reply within a business day

With questions, or an honest view on whether we are the right fit.

  3. We talk it through

A short call to understand scope, constraints and priorities.

  4. You receive a written proposal

Scope, approach and cost in writing, before any code. There is no price list: the proposal is the price.
